The Alban Pilrimage
June 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
We want to invite you to come to St Albans on pilgrimage. Not a physical pilgrimage, alas – the Virus won’t allow that for the moment – but we’d like you to take part nonetheless in our celebration of the Feast of St Alban.
At 10 am (British Summer Time) on Sunday June 21st Bishop Alan, the Bishop of St Albans, will preside at the Eucharist in the Shrine Chapel, which will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel, and available to watch afterwards.
The preacher will be the Reverend Richard Coles. He is well known in Britain as a popular radio and TV personality, a former pop singer, who is also a parish priest. He is a fascinating and unusual person, and always well worth hearing.
We will insert into the service readings, prayers, music and images from churches which have a special connection.
We are inviting all the churches in the Diocese of St Albans to watch and take part, all the parishes and groups who have attended the Pilgrimage in the last few years, also all the churches in the Fraternity of St Albans, or which are dedicated to St Alban around the world (we have identified about 200 of these, stretching from Tokyo to Tanzania, Copenhagen to California, Barbados to Bloemfontein). You will see below how to let us know you are taking part. It is obviously sad that we can’t process in thousands this year, as we usually do, to re-enact and give thanks for Alban’s martyrdom. But this is a chance to link far more people into the celebration, including very many who have never made it here in person.
It will be wonderful to unite the Diocese, Alban churches and our friends around the world in praise of God and thanksgiving for Alban. Please do take part, and I look forward to welcoming you all to St Albans for the celebration of our great saint’s feast.
With best wishes and every blessing,
