Prison Awareness Part 1

 Explore what it means to welcome prison leavers into your faith or belief community. You will increase your knowledge, understanding and capacity for welcoming prison leavers appropriately.

It has been arranged with the Welcome Directory for us to do the Prison Awareness course together in Christ Church over Zoom.
The dates are:
April/May 2026 dates:
Please arrive at 7 pm for a 7:30 – 9:00  Zoom
Across the three 90 minute sessions you will:
  • Examine and challenge your pre-existing beliefs and preconceptions around prison leavers and the criminal justice system
  • Explore lived experience by engaging and listening to the story of prison leavers
  • Have a safe space for open discussions around topics such as safeguarding Receive signposting advice to support services and organisations
  • Connect with individuals across faith communities and those working across the social justice sector, such as Chaplaincy

During each session you will explore different aspects of prison and release:

Session 1 allows you to explore your pre-existing ideas about prison and people who leave prison.

Session 2 gives you the opportunity listen to individuals with lived experience while also engaging in conversations with prison leavers and prison chaplains

Session 3 explores the benefits of engagement with faith or belief communities by celebrating the value of connection, support and inclusivity. It also offers insights into common safeguarding concerns and signposting to other resources and services
